Cleaning Patio Furniture

Metal Furniture:

To make metal furniture look new again, a quick coat of paint will do just that. Before painting you will want to prepare the surface for paint.

If the outdoor furniture is rusted or has spots of rust showing  you will want to sand off the rust with sandpaper.  Once the rust is sanded off you will then want to prime it. You can use spray primer that you buy in the cans to do small jobs.  Once you have sprayed the primer, and it has dried then you can spray the paint. You want to make sure that all exposed metal has been sprayed with primer before putting paint on.

Plastic Furniture:

You can make last year’s outdoor furniture look new by washing it down first. The best thing to use is plain baking soda on a wet sponge. The baking soda will be the abrasive that you need, and then just wipe down the furniture. After it has dried you will want to then protect it by using car wax on it, or armor all that is used for car tires, and car interiors., Either one of these products will give you the resilts that you need and want and make your plastic furniture look new again.

For white plastic furniture that may have that dingy look, or maybe even some mold and mildew you will want to mix vinegar with warm water to wash it down, then if you have to use the baking soda to rewash it.  The vinegar will remove the mold on the furniture, and the baking soda will clean it up. Once again you will want to put a protective coat on with the Armor All or the car wax.

Wood Furniture:

To get wood furniture looking good again, you will want to use deck cleaner. Once you clean the furniture and you are not happy with those results, you may want to redo the furniture. They have products for the deck that will strip the finish off, using gloves and a wire brush you will be able to remove the old finish and then you can apply new.  With the deck products, it will work best if you let it soak in then use your wire brush to take off the old finish. Once you refinish it, you may want to use silicone spray to protect it from the elements.

Patio Furniture Cushions:

Wash the cushions with warm water and vinegar to clean them up before the new season starts.  You could also mix a week mixture of bleach and hot water to clean up the cushions. For stubborn stains you may want to use a scrub brush to scrub those spots.

You may not have to replace the outdoor furniture it may simply just need cleaned real well and will  look as good as new for the new patio season.
