The Different Types of Fish Ponds

Fish ponds come in many forms, shapes and sizes.  There are fish ponds that are built for leisure, there are those maintained for hobby, and there are some run for profit.  Whatever their purpose is, two common things are present amongst all of these─ water and fish.  A fish pond can’t be called a fish pond without a couple of fish and crystal-clear waters.

The first type of fish pond mentioned above is the fish pond for leisure.  This type of pond is the one you commonly see in parks or gardens.  These ponds are built strictly for leisure purposes only.  The fish pond is used for its aesthetic value, and the fish for their relaxing effect on people.  This type of fish pond was made famous by the Ancient Chinese and Japanese Zen Artists.  For the Chinese, fish are said to be lucky charms.  According to their beliefs, if a pond is placed at a strategic and auspicious area of a given space, abundance in all aspects of life will come.  Chinese are very specific in picking fish for leisure thought.  They would prefer koi fish or gold fish for their ponds.  Japanese Zen Artists, on the other hand, relate fish to continuity and serenity, which is what a Zen garden embodies.  Fish ponds are common features of Japanese gardens, primarily for their relaxing effect.

The second type of fish pond is the ones for hobby.  Some people just love fish.  They love them so much that they take care of them in large amounts.  Fish ponds like these carry a lot of fish.  The beauty of this setting is that you get to study the fish naturally.  You can get to know their traits and how they socialize with other fish.  The third kind of fish pond is similar to this, except the owners sell the fish to other people for profit.  Usually, the fish are sold to those looking into building their own leisure ponds.

Maintaining a fish pond is not an easy task, nor is it cheap.  But you’re guaranteed to be fulfilled in doing so.
